QUICK SET 20

Rapid-setting repair mortar

DOWNLOADS:

Quick Set 20 is a blend of Portland cements, aggregate and proprietary admixtures designed to provide a fast setting patching material for horizontal, vertical and overhead applications.

Manufactured to provide excellent workability while demonstrating similar physical characteristics to the concrete substrate. This allows for the even distribution of stresses placed on the repair by dynamic loading and freeze/thaw conditions.

Features

Durable – provides long lasting repairs.

Vertical and overhead applications.

Resistant – withstands freeze/ thaw cycles.

Fast setting – sets in 20 minutes.

Performance – excellent flexural, tensile and compressive properties.

Consistent – strict quality control testing and standards.

Non-corrosive, non-metallic.

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces in contact with Quick Set 20 shall be free of dirt, oil, grease, laitance, and other contaminants. Best results will be obtained by saw cutting the area to be patched, providing uniform depth, and sound bonding areas. The area to be repaired must be saturated with water before placement (SSD – saturated surface dry). Remove any standing water prior to repair. For best results, apply a slurry coat of 1 part water to 1 part Quick Set 20 by brush to the area to be repaired. Maintain contact areas between 40°F (5°C) and 90°F (32°C) prior to repair and during initial curing period. For hot and cold weather patching applications, refer to ACI 305 Hot Weather Conditions or ACI 306 Cold Weather Conditions.

MIXING

For best results, use mechanical mixing methods. If using a rotary mixer, pre-wet mixer and empty excess water. Place 5 qt. of cool, clean potable water per 50 lb. bag in mixer then add dry material. Mix on low RPM for a total of 3-5 minutes to reach required consistency. Mix only enough material that can be placed within working time. For placements greater than 3" in depth, it is recommended that Quick Set 20 be extended 30%, by weight, with clean, washed, and dry 3/8" (1 cm) pea gravel.

PLACING

Quick Set 20 should be placed within 10 min. upon completion of mixing. Place material consistently without multiple layers. Do not add water. Do not vibrate or re-temper. Screed or float to finished elevation. Avoid any air entrapment. After leveling, the patch can be troweled, brushed or broomed to the desired finish. When material has reached proper set, it can be shaved, shaped, or molded with a steel trowel.

FINISHING & CURING

Exposed surfaces should be cured with a membrane forming curing compound such as UNITEX HYDRO SEAL.

Storage

Normal cement storage and handling practices should be observed. Store in a cool, dry place. Read and follow application information, precautions and Material Safety Data Sheet.

Limitations

Do not apply when temperature is below 40°F, or when the temperature is expected to fall below 40°F within 48 hours.

Do not apply over surfaces that are frozen or contain frost.

Do not add other cements or admixtures.

Do not apply over any active faults or cracks in the substrate without addressing any movement that may occur.

Cautions

Contains Portland cement (CAS# 65991-15-1). Do not allow contact with eyes or skin.

Contains concrete aggregates, sand/gravel (CAS# 14808-60-7).

Avoid breathing dust. Respirable silica may cause serious lung problems.

There is limited evidence silica is a carcinogen. The use of gloves, goggles and where appropriate, dust masks and other protective clothing is recommended.

Epoxy Polymer Extends Life For World's Longest Covered Bridge It’s a smoother and safer ride for motorists crossing over the Hartland Covered Bridge in Hartland, New Brunswick, Canada—the world’s longest covered bridge. The bridge deck has been covered with an epoxy polymer overlay from Unitex.
